Course Details

 • This FREE talk is part of our Connection, Creativity and Community Programme, highlighting areas of our lives that support good mental health.

• Our connection to the animals around us has been part of our evolution for thousands of years, and for very many people this connection is an integral part of what supports their good mental health.

• Animal Assisted Therapy can be much more than sitting and stroking a dog or children reading to them in school. While these activities undoubtedly have therapeutic benefits this talk will cover the benefits and basic principles of incorporating animals, and particularly dogs, in to therapy work in an active and fun way in different settings, key client areas where it is particularly suited, choosing a therapy animal, assessment of risk and the importance of appropriate training for both therapist and animal

• There will also be time for questions and discussion and some case examples.

• This course is for anyone who is interested in Animal Assisted Therapy in schools, private practice, health and mental health professionals, parents and anyone who lives or works with animals.

Our CPD workshops are open to anyone who is interested in the subject matter, wants to develop their skills and expand their knowledge. This workshop is particularly aimed at counsellors, psychotherapists and those in helping professions who work therapeutically with others.

What our Students Say

“My experience with the iron Mill was the best decision in my life, I would rate the IMI 10/10. I'm not saying it was easy, especially starting a new career at the age of 50, but I got through with a lot of hard work and dedication. Our tutors were an inspiration during the four years. Since I got my Diploma I have been so busy counselling, only last week I was offered another new job, it's amazing.”
